Willits Wolverines Name Captains For New Season

Halfback Fred Macias from Ukiah Fort Bragg and center Richard Camp were chosen as captains of the Willits Wolverine Varsity. They lead a team opening the rugged season tomorrow night at Healdsburg against the Greyhounds. Both captains are multi sport athletes and were announced at a Willits Quarterback Club preseason dinner.

Burdette Halts Giants Drive as Braves Close Gap

Burdette pitched a 2-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants, lifting his record to 21-14 and keeping the Milwaukee Braves within a game of first place with eight games left. Enos Slaughter drove in the insurance run as Cincinnati built a 13-hit attack and Koufax suffered his sixth loss. Dodgers lost 7-4 to Reds, while Early Wynn fell to 10th defeat as Yankees spoiled playoff hopes.
