Ford offers conditional amnesty for Vietnam era evaders

Two Drown After Highway 128 River Crash
Two people died when a car plunged from Highway 128 into the Navarro River around 2:30 a.m. near Ukiah. Driver John Thomas Miller 24 and front-seat passenger Dana McQuade escaped serious injury. two back-seat passengers died. Names of the deceased include a 24-year-old Philo man and a 22-year-old Walnut Creek woman withheld pending kin notification. Multiple weekend accidents were reported across Mendocino County, including a dramatic 101 crash near Heart Arrow ranch with minor injuries, and several other minor injuries from various rollovers and skids.

Hijacker blows jet in abortive hijacking over Da Nang
A Boeing 727 from Da Nang to Saigon was hijacked by Le Duc Tan, a demoted ranger officer, who blew up the aircraft over Phan Rang killing all 70 aboard. Tan, 34, wore a paratroop major disguise and had two accomplices. The flight carried eight crew and 62 passengers as the crew tried to reroute to Hanoi.

Ukiah to Host Second Congressional District Caucus
