Gov. Reagan said the Transportation Agency officials made the decision to fire Public Works Director John Erreca who was appointed in 1963. Samuel B. Nelson was named to replace him at a $25 000 annual salary. Erreca said he was shocked by the abrupt dismissal.

Donations are accepted at all three Ukiah banks, with Rascal Productions contributing 500 from a teens dance at the Fairgrounds. Ukiah Jaycees and Boy Scout Troop 50 plan three weekends of painting curb numbers, starting Saturday, to present proceeds to Susan.

A fire of undetermined origin at 9 last night destroyed Crawford Lumber Companys Alder Point sawmill east of Garberville Humboldt County. The blaze confined to the sawmill and did not reach the planing mill log deck or offices. The mill, purchased in 1964 from M M Lumber Company of Utah, may be rebuilt per a company spokesman.

Coroner's jury to hear facts in the fatal shooting of James Wilbur Hayes 32 of Morro Bay by Ed Osborne owner of the 7 11 Club at S State and Gobbi. Hayes died minutes after being shot during an attempted hold up as bartender John Wolfe was struck. Osborne fired after believing the bartender had been shot. The jury meets Friday at 9 a m in the Grand Jury room at the courthouse.

Tin Can Explosion Kills Four at Reynolds Metals Plant
An explosion at Reynolds Metals in Muscle Shoals tore a 200 foot section from the cast house during a midnight shift, killing four workers and injuring about 40 others. The blast sent debris over surrounding towns and 400 workers were treated for injuries. the cause was a natural gas furnace explosion under investigation.
