Baptists Plan Cornerstone Ceremony Sunday

The Baptist church will hold a cornerstone ceremony at 11 o clock Sunday as Dr M E Bratcher of the Northern California Baptist Convention speaks. A pink marble cornerstone will be laid for the first unit of the Baptist Christian Education building at Henry Street near the Children s House. The New preschool two story structure, cost 35000, will house nursery and kindergarten rooms and a parent class. Ground was broken last July and the building is expected to be occupied by early next year.

Local Marriage Licenses Recorded in Ukiah and Fort Bragg

John Thomas Harris aged 35 of Ukiah and Rita Rodrigues aged 23 of Fort Bragg obtained a marriage license. Francis Alford Luiz aged 28 of Ukiah and Lucille Jane Pugmire aged 19 of Fort Bragg also secured a license.

Hold Final Rites for Yorkville Accident Victim

Funeral services for Chester H. Johnson 41 killed in a logging accident near Yorkville will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. from Edna Gordon Mortuary in Cloverdale. Interment in Grass Valley Cemetery. Johnson fatally injured while operating a log loader in Ounham Valley yesterday morning when a tipped loader rolled a log onto him. He leaves a wife Myrtle and daughters Judith Ann and Beverley Jo, all of Yorkville, plus brothers Clifford Johnson Oakland and Ray Johnson Grass Valley, and sisters Edith Hears Minneapolis Minnesota and Nina Mott Frederic Wisconsin.

Ward's New Mar Takes Up Duties

T. J. Jackson succeeds E. R. Browning as Montgomery Ward manager in Ukiah arriving from Red Bluff where he led that Ward store for two years. With Ward's since 1935 except for U. S. Air Force service, he began at Boise then Oregon and California. The Jackson family of Mrs. Jackson and two children plan to settle and seek a home.

Masonite names Cotton new Ukiah general manager

William A. Cotton was promoted from production manager to general manager of Masonite Corporation's Ukiah plant in California. John M. Coates, the president, announced the move and attended a Palace Hotel dinner that also bid farewell to retiring general manager E. T. F. Wohlenberg who departs Ukiah for a Yale University industrial forestry professorship.

Ukiah Men Aim for Loggers Conference Return

Eight local businessmen plan a flight to Eureka to bid for bringing the annual Redwood Region Logging Conference back to Ukiah. They will present at the logging conference board meeting, noting Ukiah's last May exhibit count doubled any prior showing. County groups and the chamber of commerce helped spur national interest from lumber firms and equipment manufacturers.
