Ukiah Dolphin Swim Club Awards Honors 1959 Season

The Ukiah Dolphin Swim Club capped an undefeated season with the Sor optimist Meet Trophy at Labor Day ceremonies. Coach Steve Caspersen received high praise for leadership and technique, while many club swimmers earned 1959 Dolphin Awards and age-group honors including Patsy Mosna as Outstanding Dolphin. A final Napa Invitational entry remains optional for Sept. 19.

Moore Receives $50,000 Offer for Manila Featherweight Bout

UPI reports featherweight champion Davey Moore has been offered a $50,000 guarantee to defend his title against Flash Elorde in Manila. Promoter Vincente S. Umali said the offer was made to Moore's manager Wile Ketchum, who indicated interest.

Hunnicutt Upsets Smith To Claim California Welter Title

Jerry Hunnicutt of Menlo Park pulled a 3-1 upset over Charlie Smith of Los Angeles, breaking Smiths jaw with a second round overhand right to win the California welterweight title. Smith could not continue after being staggered. the ring doctor confirmed a fractured jaw and Referee Vern Bibee stopped the fight at 2:50. Hunnicutt improved to 17 knockouts in 27 bouts while leading on all cards at the stoppage. both fighters weighed 146 pounds.
