Rabid calico kittens spook Lakeport residents

Lake County health officials seek two women who took a litter of calico kittens that may be rabid. One kitten bit a new owner and was found rabid. the other littermates were dumped near Lucerne. Authorities urge contacts to report sightings to Lake County health at 263 5461 ext 294.

Elsie Walker Named Mendocino County Employee of the Year

Elsie Walker secretary to health officer Dr. Robert Holtzer was named Mendocino County Employee of the Year by a committee of civic-minded businessmen after a luncheon at the Manor Inn Ukiah. Other candidates were Mary Gilley of the clerk's office and Andy Johnston of public works. The statewide contest is run by the California Public Employees Federation. Walker has served county employment since 1962 and holds many civic roles including Ukiah Soroptimist, Camp Fire Council member, and Ukiah Oratorio Society singer.

Moratorium Placed on Inglenook Fen Area by Supervisors

Mendocino county supervisors voted 4 to 0 to impose an open space interim zoning moratorium on the Inglenook fen watershed area north of Cloone to south of Inglenook and east of Highway 1 while UC Berkeley and the state Parks and Recreation Department study preservation options.
