Ford hosts 28 economists forecast stubborn inflation

President Ford chaired a White House briefing with 28 economists who warned inflation would stay high and unemployment rise into 1975. Greenspan urged caution while Eckstein predicted a middling recession, and Sprinkel foresaw slow growth with rising joblessness amid a tight money policy and no quick fixes.

Ukiah City Adopts Open Bidding For Garbage Franchises

LP curtails Mendocino plywood and mill operations

Lowell D. Ambrosini of Louisiana Pacific Ukiah announces temporary production curtailment at Fort Bragg Plywood and Calpella Millwork, plus a two week suspension of log procurement division wide from Sept 6 1974, while studmill and random length sawmill outputs remain unaffected.

Coast commission curbs Mendocino coast development clash

The North Coast Regional Commission approves but the California Coastal Commission denies a $750,000 seven-building motel restaurant project on Albion headlands. The plan faced objections over visual impact and public view obstruction despite design efforts. Fort Bragg Mayor Bernie Vaughn supported the proposal. Mendocino County’s Richard Wilson opposed. Reed plans to appeal to court after a Superior Court reversal of a prior denial.

Looters Target Fire-Gutted Newark Market During Unrest

Looters wearing goggles and bags over their heads cleaned out a fire gutted and tear gas-filled Newark supermarket on the fourth day of unrest involving the Puerto Rican community. Police 1,400 officers stood ready as Mayor Gibson ordered a full investigation into disturbances that began after park police broke up an illegal dice game at a Puerto Rican festival.
