Pirates vs Dodgers and Reds lead NL race in homestretch

The Pirates climbed within two and a half games of the NL lead by sweeping the Dodgers in a doubleheader as Cincinnati moved atop the standings after two wins. Koufax lost his eighth, while Jim Maloney’s five hitter paced Cincinnati. Cardinals, Mets, and Astros posted wins or notable rallies as rain forced postponements in other games. In the AL, Minnesota, Kansas City, Washington, and Los Angeles won, with Chicago and Baltimore rained out.

Welter Ballet Tonight by Dolphinettes at Ukiah Pool

The Dolphinettes present a tuneful water ballet at Ukiah Municipal Pool tonight at 8 15 p m. Coached by Sharon Gra ham the show blends water routines with ballet to showcase new synchronized acts and past aqua sides while recalling dances from tango to hula. Contributions of 25 cents per person are asked at the door to help defray expenses.

Ukiah Golf Club League Nears Final Night Matchups

The sixth and final hight of the Ukiah Men's Golf Club season features Twilight Golf League play. National League winner Samoa Club, 40 points, faces Pioneer Company, American League champ with 37 points. Other pairings include King’s Corner vs Anton’s Propans, Polar Lockers vs Savings Bank, City of Ukiah vs Buxton Insurance, PB Motors vs Masahite, and Merk TV vs Daily Journal. The champion will receive a perpetual trophy and the winner’s share of the entry purse for the 12 teams. In Father and Son play, Don Bones Sr and Jr won low gross at 70, Ernie Banker and Kenny 74, Chinnocks 76. Low net went to Ralph Cole and Chris Hersey at 63 with Rosies second at 64 and Charles Shimm and Gary Shimm third at 65. Next major event is the Ukiah Men’s and Women’s Invitational medal play on Sept 18-19.
