Sportsmen seek rearing ponds to save steelhead

A meeting sponsored by the Committee to Improve Steelhead Resources will be held Monday November 12 at the Manor Inn Ukiah. Burton L. Banzhaf chairs the program to discuss locating rearing ponds below Lake Mendocino for yearling steelhead and possibly an egg taking station to preserve the Russian River strain. Attendees include Fish and Game officials and local representatives as they explore ponding and fingerling release plans to offset Coyote Dam impacts.

Open space plan eyed for Mendocino County growth

Planning director appointed for Ukiah by city manager

Ukiah City Manager Jim Swayne today announced Richard Avey as Ukiah’s first planning director. Avey 35 holds an M A from San Francisco State and is currently assistant planning director in Lodi. He and wife Judy have daughter Pamela. Avey has worked in San Mateo and Sydney prior to joining Lodi. He was chosen from over 100 applicants and will start November 26.
