Northwestern California Weather Update Tonight

Scattered showers are likely tonight with snow showers above 4000 feet in the northern mountains. Winds shift to a westerly flow tonight. Fort Bragg temperatures range from 50 to 58 degrees and Ukiah from 47 to 57 degrees.

Violent Noyo Harbor Storm Sinks Boat and Damages Docks

A fierce early morning storm at Noyo Harbor sank the Cavalier and bent piers while three boats went adrift and five to six foot surges damaged two docks. Charmaine broke moorings colliding with a dock, several pilings were shattered, and oil spills were reported though no fires or injuries occurred. Coast Guard crews and Fort Bragg firefighters worked to lash vessels and pump waters as high tide loomed. Highway 20 was briefly closed by a downed power line, delaying rescue efforts.

State may pick up tab for welfare and Medi Cal

The Brown administration weighs a plan to shift welfare and Medi Cal costs from counties to the state. Roy Bell says the cost could rise but might be included in a property tax relief package. Pilots at Ukiah airport fear collisions after removal of a wind direction tetrahedron in June. A motorized wind T is planned to indicate landing direction, with pilots relying on wind socks and flight service advice in the interim.
