Flood Files Suit In Bay Area Over Housing Bias

Curt Flood and his family say they were barred from moving into a $35,000 Alamo house because of race. He signed a one year lease and paid a $655 deposit but alleges George Finn brandished a shotgun to bar entry. Bajema Hired as Mendocino County Librarian

Mendocino County supervisors offered and Bruce D Bajema 31 year old director of the Arbutus Library in Baltimore County Maryland accepted by phone to lead the county library. Welcome Rainfall Breaks Ukiah Drought

Ukiah recorded its first rainfall since July 28 with morning showers, raising readings from 0.14 to 0.50 inches by noon. An additional 0.36 inch fell from 5 p.m. yesterday to today, keeping the city about three inches behind last year’s total of 3.67 inches on this date. Rain began before dawn today.

Potter Sentenced in Fort Bragg Disturbing the Peace Case

James Lee Potter, 18, of Fort Bragg, was fined 56 dollars or 10 days in jail by a Fort Bragg magistrate after arrest for disturbing the peace. He chose to serve the 10 days in county jail.

Johnson and Gordon Walker hold 45 minute White House talks

British Foreign Secretary Patrick Gordon Walker met with President Johnson and Secretary of State Rusk in a 45 minute White House conference. He said the talks found a broad area of interest and agreement and noted possible Labour government policy shifts would not adversely affect the United States. Gordon Walker travels to London Wednesday after three days of high level discussions.

Johnny Walker in Ukiah Hit and Run Crash

Tom Walker, 66, of Sacramento, rammed a car at State and Washington Streets. He fled on foot, was chased onto Ukiah airport property, and jailed on hit and run and drunken driving charges. Jacquelin Minolette, 141 Whitmore Lane, escaped injury with five children unharmed. her vehicle had minor damage and she was treated by her physician.

TV Industry Warned Less Crime on Shows

A Senate subcommittee warned the television industry to cut violence and crime on programs or face possible congressional intervention. The interim report urged substantial self policing and noted several legislative proposals under consideration to spur networks toward better programming, though no bills would be introduced now.

A 37 foot catamaran sailing vessel reported missing on a Vancouver to San Francisco trip was found safe in Sausalito yacht harbor. The craft Judg Al arrived at Kaplas Yacht Harbor Friday but the crew did not notify owner Russell Lewenden of Vancouver.

Goldwater Attacks Johnson At East Tennessee Rally

Republican nominee Barry Goldwater campaigned in East Tennessee denouncing President Johnson as power hungry. He urged voters never to buy votes or be coerced, noting a large crowd of about 25,000 at Tri-Cities Airport. He warned against Johnson’s alleged corruption and political uses of defense contracts, continuing on to Bristol before a long campaign swing.

Wells Fargo Opens New Covelo Building

Wells Fargo Bank moves its Covelo office to a remodeled former Frontier Bank building next to the existing trailer unit. Two Teens Hurt After North Ukiah Crash

Redwood Valley resident Louis Lake age 16 and passenger Carlos Sanchez 15 were seriously injured when their car was forced off North State Street extension near Calpella by a passing vehicle. Lake was driving. the hit-and-run collision occurred around 8 40 p m. Both youths were taken to Mendocino County Hospital by a passing motorist. The case remains under investigation.

Drunk Driving Jails Two Local Drivers

Marion Francis Timm of Hopland was freed on 276 bail after CHP arrested him Monday on drunk driving charges in Hopland. Charles August Freeman of Petaluma was arrested in Fort Bragg on drunken driving charges and later pleaded guilty, receiving a 276 fine.

Ukiah Real Estate Man W. Sallee Killed in Car Crash

Walter Joseph Sallee a 51 year old Ukiah real estate man and father of seven was killed when thrown from a sliding car on a ranch near Squaw Rock. The crash occurred as driver M Weeks attempted to climb a dirt road and the vehicle slid backward down a steep embankment. Weeks and another passenger Mr Adams were lightly injured. rescuers arrived about two hours later. Sallee a former Evansville Indiana native and Air Force veteran was active with Jack McCoey Realty and Leonard Nix Realty. He leaves a widow and seven children.

McCabe Pushes Watershed Plan To Clear Russian River Waters
