A three year old Ukiah girl Wanda Fay Stell died when an electrically operated car window activated while her mother shopped at Bargain Lane. The child was left in the vehicle with a sister or playmate. ambulance response delayed due to a nearby house fire.
Ken Roby chamber of commerce president leaves Ukiah November 1 to assume greater duties in the PG&E customer services division office at Red Bluff. After eight years as district commercial supervisor he departs to open posts at the chamber and in local organizations. Mrs Roby and three sons will stay at 1357 Rose Avenue. she is active in Beta Sigma Phi and Mothers Club PTG at St Marys school.
Barry Goldwater assailed President Johnson during a whistlestop tour in Southern California calling Johnson's security measures lax. He cited Walter Jenkins and noted emergency clearances in the State Department. Hoover’s FBI statement on wiretaps appeared as press notes circulated.

Washington UPI brief reports that a wide FBI inquiry found no security violations by Walter W. Jenkins, despite arrests on morals charges. Hoover noted Jenkins admitted indecent acts in 1959 and 1960 as he faced emotional strain, enticement by an officer, and physical exhaustion. Jenkins, a longtime White House aide, is in hospital for fatigue and high blood pressure after investigation of his YMCA basement arrests.

President Johnson led a Capitol homage to Herbert Hoover born to a prairie cabin who rose to the White House and relief work for the hungry. Hoover died at 90 and lay in state in the Capitol Rotunda as dignitaries and servicemen honored him before burial in West Branch Iowa. Senate chaplain Harris praised Hoover for aiding starving humans in two world wars amid lingering Depression-era unpopularity.
Two escaped convicts from Parlin Forks Honor Camp, suspected in the Willits in-law of Mayor Leo Hulett case, were sighted in the Leggett area in the last 24 hours. Authorities say the men, possibly with car trouble, may be driving a red and white car toward Humboldt County. They tortured and robbed 83 year old William Walker at his Willits home, binding him and stealing cash, clothing, a watch, and a police whistle before he escaped to Mayor Hulett’s residence.

Ex leader Khrushchev appeared in a chauffeur driven Chaika in Moscow near Moscow University on two occasions and was seen walking in the city on Thursday.
