Napa man shot in leg outside Ukiah tavern
A 21 year old Napa man, Frank Eugene Feliz, was shot in the right leg outside the Drifter's Club on N State Street in Ukiah at 4:28 a.m. Sunday after an earlier argument. He underwent surgery at Mendocino Community Hospital and is in satisfactory condition. Deputies are investigating and seeking the suspect.

Elk baby dies in hotel steam scalding in San Francisco
In a San Francisco hotel room an Elk woman left her 17 month old daughter alone to attend a cabaret. Steam from a faulty radiator sprayed into the room, killing Rachel Rebecca Stobie as police investigated. The mother, Katherine Stobie, returned to the room shortly before 3 am. Coroner’s deputies ruled the death and a homicide investigation was opened.

California local tax funds slated for October 1973 release
State Board of Equalization Chairman William M. Bennett said more than 40.4 million dollars will be released this week to California cities and counties in the October 1973 distribution of local sales and use tax funds. The Bradley Burns tax provides 31.2 million to cities and counties, with 7.5 million from the 4 percent local tax for the county transportation fund. BART counties receive 1.7 million. Mendocino and Lake counties list multiple town allocations, including Ukiah 26,500 and Lakeport 6,250.

Three persons were arrested over the weekend by the California Highway Patrol on drunk driving charges. Richard L. Cherry, 47, of Leggett, was apprehended Saturday five miles north of Willits and charged also with driving without a license. James Dorman Kent, 57, of Ukiah, was taken into custody Saturday on N. State Street. James Robert Arms, 47, of Willits, was arrested Saturday north of Ukiah on N. State Street.

An 18 year old Ukiah girl, Janie Sequiera, was northbound on East Side Road near River School when she lost control on a curve Saturday afternoon. Her motorcycle flipped, causing severe lacerations and head injuries. She is in Hillside Hospital ICU in serious but improving condition.

Scouts Enjoy Weekend Webelos Dedication at Camp Navarro
Sixteen Cub packs with over 120 Webelos joined a weekend of Scouting at Camp Masonite Navarro for a People’s Dedication ceremony.
