Ford veto sparks House override vote on Turkey aid

In Ford's first major clash with Congress he vetoed a bill to end U.S. military aid to Turkey. The House votes today to override the veto while the Senate awaits action. About six million dollars in aid is at stake and the dispute endangers funding for agencies including Agriculture Labor and Health Education and Welfare while Congress’ vacation is delayed.

Kissinger ends tour in Middle East and North Africa

Secretary of State Henry Kissinger wrapped a seven day trip with Morocco, Algiers, and Saudi Arabia, finding positive signs for peace and potential oil price relief. He discussed restoring ties with Algeria, reducing oil prices, and evaluating Cyprus and NATO implications amid Turkey aid debates on Capitol Hill.

Oil company to appeal Willits planning denial

Douglas Oil Company will appeal the Willits planning commission denial of expanding the Fast Gas Station to include prepackaged foods. PLO invited to UN debate on Palestinian self determination

The United Nations General Assembly voted 105 to 4 with 20 abstentions to invite the Palestine Liberation Organization to participate in the November 4 debate on the refugee question. PLO representative Nabeel Shaakh hailed the move as a step toward Palestinian self rule while Israel denounced the decision as backing murderers.

Ehrlichman’s Lawyer Accuses Nixon Of Using Him To Save Neck

Ehrlichman’s attorney charged Nixon deceived and used Ehrlichman to cover up his own knowledge while forcing a resignation to shield Nixon. The defense argued Ehrlichman was a pawn, Nixon admitted fault at Camp David, and tapes would prove the cover up. Dean was to testify as the prosecution’s key witness.

Washington UPI reports President Ford will sign the Federal Election Campaign Act Amendments of 1974, a sweeping reform expected to curb campaign spending. Liddy Bond Reduced and He Is Released Pending Appeal

Federal Judge Gerhard Gesell lowered G Gordon Liddy s bond from 100 000 to 5 000 and ordered his release from DC jail during appeal He faces both Watergate and Ellsberg related cases Liddy 51 previously refused to testify and must report to marshals if convictions are upheld The bail was posted by his mother and he will reside in Oxon Hill Maryland with his wife and five children until outcome of the appeals.

Seven students injured in Hyde Park High School violence

In Boston at Hyde Park High School a racially tense outbreak injures seven students including a 15 year old white boy stabbed in the stomach. Ambu lances and police respond as the school closes early with buses taking black students home amid widespread disruption and confrontations.
