Blevins Sentenced To San Quentin In Superior Court
Thomas Blevins, 38, a former Oregon prison inmate, was found guilty by a jury last month of first degree robbery and assault and sentenced to San Quentin to run concurrently. He attacked Patrick M. McGuire on August 15, beating him with a wine bottle and stealing $4 near Garberville along Redwood Highway. McGuire testified he gave Blevins a ride, and Blevins was acquitted of kidnapping. Newell Rawley defended Blevins. Ernest Rivera, 23, arraigned on burglary tied to the October 4 rifling of the Big Oaks Restaurant in Calpella, pleaded guilty and awaits a probation report.

Reed's Sentence Suspended in Saddle Theft Case
Calvin Thomas Reed, 22, and a companion pled guilty to stealing six saddles from the fairgrounds in 1952. He received a six month suspended county jail term and two years probation, and must repay $400 to saddle owner Charles Perry. Reed had just been released from a San Diego Marine brig after 21 months for desertion.

Lawrence A Francis of Robinson Lane Ukiah died Thursday in a local hospital. He worked for Masonite Corp and lived in Ukiah seven years. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 pm at Zimmerman Mortuary with Rev Leonard Brown officiating. Interment Ukiah Cemetery. He was born April 9 1913 in Plymouth Ohio and a World War I veteran. Survived by wife Louise Ann and two daughters Louise H and Carol Sue. Also survived by four brothers Laurel Calvin Robert and Clifford Francis. Regina said the charity fundraiser was lawful and necessary.

William Willis, 61, completed a 6000 mile solo voyage from Callao Peru to Samoa in 115 days on a balsa raft named Seven Little Sisters.
