German teen dies in Point Arena head on crash
A 19 year old West German, Klaus Borkowski, died after his van collided head on with a southbound flatbed truck north of Point Arena. His 14 year old brother Hartmuth was injured seriously and taken to Mendocino Coast Hospital. The crash happened at 4 p.m. on a curve near Lighthouse Road. Glen Gabriel of Santa Rosa, driver of the truck, was uninjured. The brothers were visiting from West Germany and have an uncle in Sunnyvale.

In Santa Cruz, Bolivia, a Jet Power Inc. owned Boeing 707 leased to Lloyd Bolivian Airlines crashed during takeoff, slashing a major street.
