Mendocino Supervisors keep bookmobile policy in place

Mendocino County Supervisors reaffirmed the county library bookmobile policy allowing stops near schools but not on campuses. They approved a Covelo stop change to Lambertson's Pharmacy and extended visit times to a hour and a half to serve students and adults. They also approved lighting district power upgrades and considered one way street designations for Covelo and Denslow to improve safety for young children and Art Center students. The board discussed dump site screening and locating dumps for Mendocino and Casper.

Prosecution rests in Conley slaying case in Ukiah

The prosecution rested its case against William J. Conley at 11 am. today. Conley, a Ukiah logger, is charged with the July 19 slaying of Clifton and Elaine McCool as the couple fled their cabin at 273 E. Clay Street. Fire Calls Today Smoke Scare At Talmage And State Streets

At 5 35 a m firefighters responded to a smoke scare at the intersection of Talmage and State Streets in a routine alarm. No flames reported and no injuries noted. Crews investigated and cleared the scene.

Threat to President Johnson Spur Arrests in Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi Texas police arrested Julius Schmidt 29 and another man on federal arms charges after a report of a threat to kill President Johnson. Deputies described a Swastika decorated home with a machine gun field mortar rocket launcher grenades and rifles and 20 000 rounds of ammo. A former mental patient remained sought as the suspect in the threat to the president who planned a campaign swing in Corpus Christi.
