Close League Bowling Tests Tie Contests and High Scores

The league results show several tight finishes as Aldah City and C&S Supply tied on lanes 3-4, while Ernie's Hardware and Johnny's Market also deadlocked. high scores include Guido Venturi 577 series and multiple bowlers over 180 in the first three weeks across Mendo Realty, Hollow Tree, and Local 1245 divisions.

All-Americans To Be Shown on TV Film in Fall

The American Football Coaches Association will produce a 26% minute 16 mm film about its 1959 All-America team to air on television and be distributed by United Press International. An 11 man board will select the team, with announcements planned for November 25 in afternoon papers. The project aims to promote college football and will include campus footage and commentary by leading coaches.

Lopez Alston Top Managers Of Year In Jet World Series Era

Al Lopez of the Chicago White Sox and Walt Alston of the Los Angeles Dodgers were named the major leagues top managers by United Press International. Lopez won AL honors with 22 of 24 votes and Alston led NL with 16 of 24 votes. Rigney and Haney Murrah also received votes.

Art Wall Is Golf Pro of Year for 1959

Art Wall, Masters champion from Pocono Manor Pennsylvania, was named Professional Golfer of the Year for 1959 after receiving 216 ballots in a national poll. Harold Sargent PGA president announced Wall will receive the award at the president's dinner on December 8 in Clearwater Florida. Wall set a record with $8,580 in prize money in January and earned more than $50,000 in 1959 overall.

Five New Postseason Bowls Approved for Football Season

The NCAA extra events committee approved five new post season bowls Aluminum Flower Bluebonnet Liberty and Santa bowls expanding the total. The list includes the Flower Bowl in New Orleans Bluebonnet in Houston Liberty in Philadelphia and Aluminum in Little Rock with other established bowls and rules guiding participation.

Northern California Women's Golf Championship Opens in Fresno

Match play began today at Fort Washington Country Club in Fresno for the Northern California Women's Golf Association Championships. Defending champion Mrs.ermit Pearson of San Mateo earned medalist honors with a 75 Monday, with runner up Mrs. Don Shelburne of Fresno two strokes behind. The championships conclude Friday.

Don Bones Wins Two Under Par in Ukiah Golf Match

Ukiah Men's Golf Club seals the rubber match in a three club home and home series with Healdsburg and Cobb Mountain. Don Bones shot 64 low gross, two under par, his best round ever, driving Ukiah to two series wins while Art Thornton and Paul Sheppard tied for low net at 59 and 61 respectively. Ralph Cole, Cobb Mountain club president, fired 69 for second low gross.

DeMuag Gio Tops AL Stolen Bases Record in 1950

Boston report notes Dom DeMuag Gio led the American League with 15 stolen bases in 1950, the lowest best total ever recorded by a 4-winner in that department.
