Freight traps family on trestle tragedy near Boys Ranch

Cecil Reynolds, his wife and three sons Mitch five Dudley eight and Mike eleven were crossing a narrow 30 foot high trestle over the Canadian River when a freight train bore down. Mrs Reynolds was killed and Cecil and Mitch critically injured while Dudley and Mike escaped unhurt. The family was taken to Amarillo Hospital.

London Bridge reborn in Arizona desert celebration

The 140 year old London Bridge was reassembled over 23 months by a 40 man crew using 10 276 granite blocks shipped from London and rebuilt in Lake Havasu City Arizona. Sir Peter M Studd lord mayor of London dedicated the opening. about 50 000 people attended the ceremony.

Artist Christo Halts Rifle Gap Curtain Project

Bulgarian artist Christo Javacheff abandoned his attempt to unfurl a 1,250 foot wide bright orange curtain at Rifle Gap Colorado after mechanical and wind difficulties. A 17 man crew struggled to deploy the 250,000 square foot drape as canyon winds ripped the fabric, with Javacheff’s wife Jeanne-Claude noting the danger and end of the effort for now.

Officials crack down on drugs offenders

Ukiah residents Frank Horne Jr. age 19 and Samuel Harris age 21 were arrested in separate drug cases after a joint police sheriff's investigation and a hospital employee observation. Horne is charged with two counts of heroin sale. Harris faced marijuana possession after hospital staff flagged it near his bed. A Denver man, Roy Keranen, 27, was nabbed on forged drug prescriptions and stolen property links tied to local burglaries. He faces a $2500 bail and awaits Denver charges.
