Burns says recession exists but not worsening

Mendocino College trims site cost to 292150 dollars

Small wholesale price gain signals slow inflation

The UPI report says the government wholesale price index rose just 0.1 percent in September, the smallest rise in a year, with the index at 167.2. Food prices fell 0.3 percent, beef and veal led the decline in consumer food costs, while industrial commodities rose 1 percent and consumer durables increased 1.6 percent. Transient booked in death of companion near Laytonville

A 23 year old transient identified as Robert Alan Buchin of New York has been booked in county jail on suspicion of murder in the shooting death of a companion near Laytonville. The victim, described only as "Blue," died from a shoulder wound after the pair, who were hitchhiking, were found by Deputy Cecil Caldwell near Highway 101. The weapon is believed to be a .45 revolver. The homicide is the county's ninth this year.
