Gas Station Shutdown Fades Amid Protests in New York

United Press International reports a nationwide plan to halt gas stations to protest gasoline price freezes losing momentum outside Southern California. Long Island Retailers claim 85 percent of suburban members and 50 percent in Queens were closed for a second day of the protest led by their group chief.

Americans add 700000 jobs in September amid steady unemployment

UPI reports September added 700000 employed Americans to a record 85.1 million, offset by a 750000 rise in the labor force leaving unemployment near 4.8 percent for the fourth straight month. Over the past year employment rose 2.75 million while jobless remained around 4.3 million. Wholesale prices also fell, led by a 6 percent drop in food costs.

Willits Woman Hernandez Declared Insane in Slaying

Andrea Evangeline Hernandez, 30, was ruled legally insane after psychiatric reports and ordered confined at Atascadero state hospital for an indefinite period. She is accused of fatally shooting Manuel Michael Vlahos, 23, whose body was found in a shallow Willits grave in July. their one year old child placed in foster care.

Oak Manor project wins re approval by city planners

City planning commissioners again approved a draft environmental impact report and tentative map for the Oak Manor subdivision Unit No 3 after council objections. The 76 unit project saw changes to ensure 60 foot frontage on all lots and address traffic density and storm runoff concerns while future EIS focus may include schools and sewage facilities.
