Giants clinch pennant with ninth inning rally over Dodgers

In a dramatic deciding playoff clash, the Giants trailed 4-2 but rallied in the ninth inning to defeat the Dodgers 11-4. Willie Mays tied the game with a single, Felipe Alou and Jim Davenport drove in runs, and Willie McCovey drew a key walk to load the bases. Hurlers Roebuck and Williams faltered, but the Giants seized control and Perryan took advantage as Mays scored the go ahead run, securing San Francisco’s 18th pennant.

Local prep schedule features Potter Valley at Laytonville in jv at 6:30 p m and varsity at 8 30 p m on Friday with Ukiah hosting Fort Bragg on Saturday backdrop of Spirit Day at Ukiah High. Willits visits Clear Lake at 6 p m Saturday while Lakeport hosts a 6 p m clash.

Cal Leads Nation In Fish Licenses

California posted the highest totals for licensed anglers in the 1961 fiscal year. The state had 1,475,277 paid fishing license holders, and 3,466,989 total licenses, tags, permits and stamps, far ahead of Minnesota and Wisconsin. The figures came from the California Department of Fish and Game and were released by the U S Fish and Wildlife Service.

National Wildlife Federation Grants Here for Students
