Willits Hosts Invited Basketball Tourney Start This Saturday

Willits high school will host a two day invitational basketball tournament featuring Ukiah Napa and South Fork. The event opens Saturday at 11 a.m. with Willits vs Ukiah and Napa vs South Fork at 1 p.m. Consolation play follows at 7:30 p.m. and the championship around 9 p.m. Notable teams Napa and Ukiah are strong challengers though Ukiah is emerging as a dark horse from a barrier before Healdsburg tourney.

Salton City hosts first Inboard Championship Regatta

About 70 boats raced the Salton Sea in the final day of the first Inboard Championship. Chuck Lyford of Seattle won the 48 cubic inch hydroplane class at 65.55 mph. Allan Ford set an early top time of 105.34 mph in the 225 cubic inch class. An explosion during the big boat race injured Art Kastner who was treated at Casitas Hospital in Indio.

Pit Stop Costs Win In Grand Prix Race

In Las Vegas the first Grand Prix stock car race ran 131 miles before darkness halted the event. Elmhurst speedster Fred Lorenzen won, earning 1600 dollars.
