Arson trial moves into second day for Otis Hurt

City Council and Planners Schedule Open Joint Session

Councilmember Ted Feibusch asks for a joint study session with the city planning commission to discuss growth and city services. The open agenda session is set for tomorrow at 7 30 p m in council chambers with a county election services agreement on a separate special session beforehand. The next city election is in March with two council seats and one ballot measure.

Rhodesian raids boost white morale as insurgency hit hard

Rhodesia reports air and ground strikes against guerrilla bases in Mozambique killed more than 1,200 rebels in five days and destroyed two bases. Military officials say about 20 percent of Mozambique based insurgents were wiped out while Rhodesia's forces also struck the Embabwe National Liberation Army headquarters. The operation followed Ian Smith’s peace plan proposal and drew mixed reactions from nationalist leaders.

Senators demand refundable credits with energy tax plan

Ten senators led by Durkin Chiles McIntyre Leahy and others told President Carter that a crude oil tax must include refundable tax credits for home heating oil and electricity. They warned they would oppose COET without regional pricing equity and requested a White House meeting as negotiations continue.

Patrol targets drunk drivers in December DUI crackdown

The Highway Patrol launches a December DUI crackdown with about 20 000 overtime hours across five agencies including CHP sheriff and city police. December ads and billboards run to warn drivers and a daily arrest tally will be published while penalties for first offenses range from 250 to 500 dollars and up to 48 hours in jail.

Interior invites public comment on offshore drilling off northern California
