Ukiah Cagers open season with double win over Willits

Ukiah Varsity defeated Willits 64 34 in the opener as Kirby Walsh led with 11 points and Bruce Zimmerman added 9. The Ukiah Jayvees overwhelmed Willits 57 24 after a 27 16 halftime edge, showing strong defense and team play. Willits’ crews were led by Rich Noel and John Waganer with nine points each.

Joe Louis earns Walker Award in boxing honors

New York based boxing writers name Joe Louis as recipient of the James Walker Award for lifetime contributions to boxing. Calos Ortiz wins fighter of the year in a tight ballot.
