Mendocino County to hold hearing on proposed corps camp
The Mendocino County supervisors set December 8 at 2 p.m. for a public hearing on a 52,000 acre Bureau of Land Management range land block near Cow Mountain and King Range. John Lane of BLM proposed a year round camp for about 100 boys ages 16 to 21 to work on conservation and recreation development projects. The plan, similar to Civilian Conservation Corps camps, targets youths who dropped out or need training, not convicts, and mirrors themes of the War on Poverty programs already discussed with local welfare and education leaders.
