The Ukiah fire department weather bureau reports 3.16 inches of rain from Sunday 5 p.m. to Monday 5 p.m. lifting the seasonal total since July 1 to 8.29 inches, with a potential few showers tonight and Wednesday. Unofficial total to date reaches 9.06 inches, including 0.77 inches from 5 p.m. Monday to 8 a.m. today.

Derailment attempt blocks Skunk train near Fort Bragg

Sheriff reports deliberate derailment attempt on the California Western line six miles east of Fort Bragg with metal spikes placed on the track. Seagulls on island show wild female same sex pairs

Researchers from University of California Irvine report that about 14 percent of female western seagulls on Santa Barbara Island form female female pairs. The study notes these pairs court, nest, defend territory and lay infertile eggs, with no evidence of male homosexual birds.
