Globe circling pilot Elgen Long, 44, from Woodside California, completed a 19 hour solo flight from Punta Arenas Chile to McMurdo Sound Antarctica becoming the first pilot to fly solo from the North Pole to the South Pole. He faced zero temperatures and a heater failure with survival gear, reporting poor visibility due to cloud cover but successfully flying on instruments over the pole. The flight, part of a four corner world trip begun November 5, will continue to Sydney and San Francisco with an anticipated December 3 return.

Wednesday rites for Mr. Dunsing
Funeral services for Charles H. Dunsing 73 of Ukiah will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Eversole Mortuary with burial in Ukiah Cemetery. Dunsing born in 1898, died in a Ukiah hospital yesterday. He was World War I veteran and member of the Heavy Equipment Operators Union. Survived by wife Josephine and brothers Clyde of Stockton and Theodore of Ukiah.
