Masonite winner in safety scramble

Al Stefani of Ukiah won a Polaroid color camera by solving a 70 letter scrambled safety slogan as part of Masonite mill safety program. The advert notes Ukiah is the second largest hardboard mill, with Towanda and Laurel as other Masonite locations, and adds a curious aside on ancient moon deities.

Wild-Katz Band Club elects officers at annual meeting

At a recent Wild-Katz Band Club gathering in Ukiah Vincent Angel was elected president for the year, Agnes Gomes named membership chairman and Mary Farney as telephone chair. Past President Merydel Peterson received thanks, with special praise for Marietta Ronco who fitted uniforms and made costumes for the majorettes. The 2000-member Santa Rosa and Kisah marching bands held a spaghetti supper to begin the year.

Pear Growers Set Meeting In California Canning Pear Assn

Pear growers gather tonight for a session of the California Canning Pear Association with dinner at 6 30 in the House of Garner. Lee W Veerkamp of Placerville will jointly represent El Dorado and Placer districts, replacing retiring director Farrell Wrenn after 17 years on the board. Ed Boeger of Gridley is elected director for the Butte Sutter Yuba district.

Realtor Jack L. Cox Attends Tax Real Estate Seminar

Ukiah realtor Jack L. Cox returned from a four day seminar at the Hilton San Francisco Airport on Advanced Concepts in the Income Tax Aspects of Real Estate Transactions. The Richard R. Reno Educational Foundation sponsored the program with instructors from Considine and Considine CPAs San Diego. Cox, a Society of Exchange Counselors member, advocates higher educational standards for the industry and ongoing professional service.

Potter Valley Homecoming Parade and Queen Crowned 1960

Potter Valley celebrated the 00 season with the crowning of Queen Claudia Callander at the Homecoming dance. The Boosters Club organized the parade with floats from 4-H, grades, and classes, attended by Princesses Holly Harding and Anne Biggins. Local residents and visitors, including former Rams player Jack Wells, were thanked for support and coaching. Several families visited, with stories of travel and a house fire loss cited.
