Franco in critical condition after hemorrhage at 82

Franco’s doctors in Madrid battled to save him from internal bleeding with medicine and transfusions as he remained in very grave condition. An 1:30 a.m. deterioration left him unable to undergo a fourth operation with four machines sustaining him. A bulletin 12 hours later said the hemorrhaging had been treated medically. Iran asked OPEC to approve aid for developing nations hurt by oil prices, Kuwait and Venezuela backing the plan at the cartel’s Vienna meeting.

Hearst defense gains delay in bank robbery trial

Patricia Hearst remains the focus as her lawyers win a six week postponement of the trial from December 15 to January 26 citing expectations of her improved mental condition. Nine jurors chosen in Chapman murder trial in Novo

A jury of nine men and three women with a woman alternate was selected at 6 30 Monday evening for the Warren Dewitt Chapman murder case. Chapman 48 is charged with killing Bob Parducci 28 after a July 10 dispute over where a pickup truck should be parked. The trial, presided by Superior Judge Lloyd Phillips, features private juror examinations in chambers and a prosecution start after opening statements. Parducci, once with Alioto Fish Company, was fatally shot in front of the Salmon Inn Motel in Novo, witnessed by Mervin Orsi. Chapman, a former Okiehan, once ran the 7 11 Club.

Swayne to report on redevelopment project priorities

City Manager Jim Swayne will present recommendations on redevelopment project priorities and costs to the Ukiah City Council. The council will decide whether to accept modify or reject the suggestions at the Wednesday 8 p.m. meeting in council chambers. Deputies Killed in Alabama Swamp Ambush

Deputies David Beck and Robert Stoltz were slain during an ambush after Ronald Kelso stopped a speeder in Mobile County. A suspect, Jere L. Chatom, 23, faces two counts of first degree murder. a second man, David Wilson, 27, was killed in the exchange. Deputy Sam Morgan was wounded as the attackers fled into a swamp near the Alabama Mississippi line.
