Israel Says It Will Reopen Geneva Talks If Syria Restores UN Mandate

Israel would join revived Geneva peace talks if Syria extends the 1,250 U.N. troops mandate on the Golan Heights which expires Nov. 30. Rabin ruled out negotiations with the PLO and discussed U.S. paper bias on the Palestinian issue. Egypt moves to control Ras Sadar in the Sinai as Israel withdraws from parts of the region.

North Coast Lions Gather in Ukiah Cabinet Meeting

Lions from Ukiah and seven other clubs met for the North Coast District 402 cabinet gathering at the Ukiah fairgrounds. Officers awarded district honors, Bechtel served as registration chair, Villegas received a Medic Alert award, Hinkle was praised for tennis event efforts, and weather cancellations affected the golf and tennis tours.

Boonville Man Dies In Freak Accident

A 29 year old Boonville man Gary Lee Mann died after his car crossed the center line on Highway 128 near Philo. The vehicle struck an embankment overturned and Mann was run over after the car righted. He was a Vietnam veteran employed by Philo Lumber Company. He is survived by a son David parents Russell and Mrs Mann Ukiah a sister Connie Ayers Santa Rosa and grandmother Mary Stornetta Point Arena. Funeral services set for 10 a.m. at Ormsbee Ayers Point Arena Funeral Home with a rosary tonight at 8 led by Rev Fr Anthony Bolger. Burial Philo Catholic Cemetery. Rambouillet Summit Forms Plan to Fight Global Recession

Ford and leaders of Britain France Japan Germany and Italy launched a joint effort to curb the worst world recession in four decades. The Rambouillet declaration pledged cooperation to stabilize international currency markets lower unemployment curb inflation and expand trade while preserving floating exchange rates and rapid central bank action to counter disorderly markets.

Cleaver to Return to United States from Exile

Eldridge Cleaver agreed to surrender to American authorities and return to the United States Tuesday after seven years in exile in Algeria and France. He faces parole violations and assault charges from an Oakland shootout. he appeared at the U S embassy seeking an identity paper to reenter without a passport. His wife Kathleen accompanied him. Cleaver has moved through Cuba the Soviet Union and France amid fashion ventures since fleeing in 1968.

Lange named to county post to lead treasurer office

Irene Lange, longtime aide in the treasurer and tax collector offices, was appointed by the board of supervisors to head the department for the remainder of Sam Ray Jr.'s term. She edged out nine other applicants after over three hours of interviews and a 15 minute board discussion.

AIM leader Banks may be:one suspect in FBI shootout case

FBI agents hunted Sunday for two men in Oregon and Idaho after a shootout with police. One man was possibly Dennis Banks of the American Indian Movement. his common law wife Darlene Nichols and three others were arrested. The pursuit involved a mobile home and a white station wagon. A child was placed with state officials.
