Layoffs Predicted If Rail Strike Continues Longer

The Ukiah based Ukiah Pine Lumber Company signals possible layoffs of five men at the Ukiah loading dock if the Northwestern Pacific Railroad strike is not settled soon. Frank Klaisner said two freight cars remain to be loaded, likely finished by tomorrow night, as the 276 mile railroad remains closed.

Civil Defense to Test Statewide Emergency Net

Lee Trowbridge of the Mendocino county office of civil defense announced today that 108 California radio stations will take part in a nationwide test of Conelrad early Wednesday morning November 17. Listeners can tune to the emergency network between 1 30 and 4 30 a m by dialing 640 or 1240 on their radios. During the three hours the air will be cleared of all broadcasting except from those stations in the Conelrad system.

Six Traffic Mishaps Mar Weekend on Highway Near Ukiah

A string of six weekend highway accidents along the Redwood Highway from Calpella to Robinson Creek road near Ukiah injured several, with drivers cited for speed on poor roads. Lawrence Crockett and daughter Suzanna were treated after a car overturned near Robinson Creek road. James Brower and Jesse Thompson incidents injured James Thompson. Anthony Herzog rolled over near Robinson Creek road. Olive Osteen and a passenger escaped injury. Glenn Klein’s car rolled. Austin Mallory and party were hospitalized while others found shelter at a local home.

County City Meet to Consider Sewers Tonight

Repossession of trailer ends in gunfire at Star Trailer Court

Navy Rescues Four Survivors Of Plane Crash

Four survivors from a Navy PV2 patrol plane were rescued by a Coast Guard seaplane off the North Carolina coast near Pamlico Sound. The missing include one crewman and an F3D fighter from Cherry Point. Surviving officers are Lt. Robert Lawton Marlonee Towson Md Lt Cmdr.
