California approves new fish and game laws in 1969 session
The 1969 California Legislature enacts laws making mountain lions a big game animal with a $1 hunting tag starting July 1, 1970, replacing pheasant tags with a $2 stamp, raising various commercial fishing and related fees to about $800,000 annually, and extending fish and game commission powers. Other changes include longer pheasant shooting days in Zone A, domestically reared chukar releases statewide, permits for disabled veterans hunts, and continued wildlife regulation for four more years along with a sardine fishery moratorium and penalties for illegal dumping.
