Ukiah General Hospital Opens New Wing Inspection Day

Ukiah General Hospital unveils a 125000 dollar addition raising capacity to 40 beds. Open house Sunday November 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. will be led by Myrtle Heise and Blanche Maher. Ukiah airport extension advancement depends on a private appropriation after missing $22 million federal help. Clyde Small, air port chair, told Ukiah council that $17,000 local match would accompany about $20,000 from CAA for a 1000 foot runway extension while plans include a 150 foot frontage on Redwood Highway for commercial development.

Rainy Veterans Day Parade Dampens Ukiah Turnout

Rain disrupted Ukiah's downtown Veterans Day parade with only a few determined marchers completing the route. The San Francisco Marine Corps band performed from inside a bus and open windows while Ukiah area bands did not appear. Units from American Legion Footprinters Association Future Farmers and various groups braved the rain on foot or in open cars, ending with siren-blaring Ukiah fire department units.

Supervisors to Review Vets' Officer Bids

The county board will review applications for the veterans service officer post to replace Sam Ray Jr. who departs in January for county treasurer. Simpson Outlines Utilities Plan For New School

Ukiah district superintendent Jack Simpson presented an interim plan to install an eight inch water main from Washington Street to Dora Street and a six inch line to existing city mains. The city would not incur costs. easements from three owners are being pursued. If annexation occurs the easements may transfer to the city and residents would help cover costs. The council told Simpson to continue obtaining the easements. One owner within city limits can connect to the sewer line for $2 monthly. Utility progress is delaying the school, with a $151,000 project slated for January and final plans approved.
