Oakland Oaks fined 100 dollars for lateness by 6 foot 10 inch center Jim Hadnot who failed to report after three players were sought in a trade with the Philadelphia Tapers. Ukiah Boys Take Eighth at North Bay League Meet

Ukiah cross country finished eighth at the North Bay League championships in Vallejo. Gary Gleason led Ukiah with 28th place among 60 runners as the program lacks regular season competition and recent team experience. Santa Rosa Montgomery and Sonoma led the standings.

Physicals Could Cut Grid Deaths Still More in The

An NCAA special committee on football injuries led by Penn State athletic director Ernest McCoy reports most mishaps occur in early season practice or during the third period of games. It cites knee and ankle injuries as 62 percent and suggests longer fall conditioning or extra time between halves. The panel defends protective helmets and face masks but urges stricter officiating to curb infractions, noting Notre Dame Oklahoma saw 11 infractions with high injuries.

Raiders Sign Veteran Place Kicker to Pact

Ben Agajanian, 43, was signed by the Oakland Raiders. GM Wes Fry said he can deliver three-pointers from anywhere inside the 30-yard line. Agajanian has played in all three major U.S. pro leagues, beginning with the Los Angeles Dons and later stints in the NFL before joining the AFL. The Raiders face Houston on Sunday.

Forthuber Family Likely Leaves Ukiah Soon

Hany Forthuber and family may move to Eureka as a Metropolitan Life official has been reassigned there. The Ukiah athlete, a junior football potential starter and baseball player, hopes to stay for now, while the family weighs finding a new home and arranging schooling for the Nokomis children.

Lavorante Moved Still in Coma

Argentine heavyweight Alejandro Lavorante remains in a coma after a brain hemorrhage from a September bout. He was transferred from ICU to a private room at a California hospital after 49 days in coma and three brain operations. His manager Pinky George says the move is a positive sign and that he now requires less special attention.
