Lebanon War Rages Despite Short Truce As Snipers Hit

Christian and Moslem snipers kept the Lebanon truce fragile with a new round of killings around Beirut. Roughly 12 people died in hours of violence, pushing two months of fighting near 1200 dead and 3000 wounded as bombs and gunfire shattered streets despite a three day cease fire. In Madrid, Franco survived surgery after severe bleeding. Doctors said his condition improved from very grave to grave following a long operation and transfusions. He regained consciousness and spoke to his wife.

County transit seeks bids for five 23 passenger buses

The Mendocino Transit Authority will prepare specifications and solicit bids for five 23 passenger buses for a pilot bus project. One bus will have an elevator for wheelchairs. Project cost is 230000 with 20000 contingency. potential permanent operation if successful after one year.

LAFCO OKs Low Gap annexation with land dedication condition

The Local Agency Formation Commission approved 67.9 acres for annexation to Ukiah with a plan for the Ukiah Unified School District to dedicate a 60 foot strip for Despina Drive extension, a measure later amended to keep the parcel in the county. The deal includes $303 per lot in nearby developments to fund the road expansion and notes potential alternate access routes for the school district.
