Football Jamboree Set At Anton Stadium

Ukiah Recreation Department and Ukiah Unified School District sponsor an eight team flag football jamboree for 5th and 6th graders at Anton Stadium Saturday starting 9 am. Eight minute halves, single elimination, with games at 9 9:45 11:15 12:00 12:45 finals, and 1:30 pm championship. Nokomis favored after seven straight wins, with Oak Manor Yokayo St Mary's Hopland Potter Valley and Redwood Valley among contenders.

Willard McNeil struggle in 49ers backfield at LA

San Francisco faces a 1-5-1 record as Clifton McNeil and Willard Willard admit form has slipped. McNeil has 15 receptions for 24 yards this season after last year’s 43 catches for 584. Willard has 338 yards on 101 carries, down from 444 on 114 a year ago.

Dummit Named Pac-8 Back of the Week for UCLA

UCLA quarterback Dennis Dummit, a junior college transfer, earned Pac-8 back of the week after guiding the Bruins to an 8-0 start. He threw for 124 yards and two TDs in a 57-14 win over Washington, raising his season passing yardage to 1,533 and his TD total to 13. Dummit earlier starred at Long Beach City College and Wilson High.

Ohio State Holds No. 1 in UPI College Rankings

Ohio State remains the top team in the UPI rating after a weekend where two unbeaten squads LSU and Florida were upset. The Buckeyes earned 31 first place votes and 346 points, ahead of Texas with 307 and Tennessee in third. Penn State rose to fourth, USC fifth, with Arkansas UCLA Missouri Purdue and Notre Dame rounding out the top ten.

Alcindor Leads Bucks Loss as Knicks Dominate

Lew Alcindor scored 17 points with 16 rebounds but Milwaukee was overwhelmed by Willis Reed and New York. The Knicks defeated the Bucks 109 to 93, extending their Eastern Division lead and snapping Milwaukee’s six-game series slide. Reed posted 35 points and 12 rebounds, with Bradley 19 and DeBusschere 18 for New York.
