Willits High School Band Spring Concert Saturday Night

Lakeport considers church site for county offices

Lake County supervisors weighed buying the Lakeport Methodist Church lot for extra courthouse offices at about 59,000 plus 50,000 remodels but rejected the purchase. Parking needs sparked by possible demolition of the chapel and alternative parcels or courthouse teardown were discussed, with plans to study current parking usage and overhead options.

Willits Approves 101 and 20 Signal Project

Willits city council unanimously approved a 112000 four way signal project at the Highway 101 and 20 intersection and authorized Caltrans to proceed. The city will contribute 5000 plus landscaping costs. The action also adopts planning commission spheres of influence and approves Northbrook Subdiv No 2. An expansion request from the All Women’s Improvement Club Hall for a municipal court was received.

President Ford pressed 11 hours of one on one talks with Luxembourg Greece Turkey Denmark Portugal leaders at the NATO summit in Brussels. He aimed to break the Cyprus stalemate and act as peacemaker while stressing no quick solutions.

Power outage hits Ukiah city regions briefly

Electrical service to central and north Ukiah failed at 10:34 and was restored at 11:35 with a brief south city outage lasting minutes. Crews worked at the North Ukiah sub station and could not be reached for comment on the interruption.

Public hearings set for Monday LAFCO meet

Local Agency Formation Commission members will convene Monday June 2 at 2 p.m. in the courthouse supervisors chambers for three hearings. Warf annexation to Potter Valley irrigation district covers 4.1 acres of agricultural land. Schultz annexation to Willow County water district spans about 477 acres southeast of Ukiah between Highway 101 and the NWP. A continued hearing on Spheres of Influence concludes the session, followed by an executive officer report from Ad ministrator Al Beltrami.

Tremors Felt Across Redwood Valley Area

A series of minor earthquakes rattled Redwood Valley Calpella and Tomki residents early today with tremors reported from 4 a.m. to shortly before 7 a.m. No damage was noted in Tomki though items fell from shelves and glass doors rattled. Ukiah Observatory said traces may appear on seismology records but will be checked later tonight.

Lakeport schools face cutbacks in 73 74 year

Lakeport Unified School District will cut staff and programs after a failed revenue measure. Proposed changes include two teaching positions eliminated, scrapping the cafeteria, and two custodial maintenance jobs trimmed. ADA cost is 1110, lower than neighboring districts, with last year’s ADA drop costing 45000 and no reserves. Teachers received only small 2 percent steps.
