Ukiah Invitational Amateur Golf Tourney Draws Wide Field

Ninety nine golfers plus women scorekeepers from Ukiah Golf Club competed over 36 holes at Ukiah Municipal Golf Course. Don Wray and Ernie Banker led first-day team winners. Ron McElroy posted low gross 143, John Hanlon low net 129, with Paul and Gary Shimmin winning a playoff for top score.

Drivers Set For Memorial Day 500 Mile Race

All 33 pilots prepare for the annual 500 mile Memorial Day race with a prize pot around 725000. They will receive final warnings and instructions at the drivers meeting before takeoff, facing high danger as they race toward the jackpot.

Deschamps Dominates Ukiah Lakeport Racing Night

Deschamps won the Northern California Racing Association season opener at the District Fairgrounds Ukiah with a main event triumph on Friday night and completed a double by taking the second main at Lakeport Saturday. His car passed NCAA-spec testing after Friday’s win, despite a high-speed late surge. In Ukiah, Mac Simmons led 20 of 25 laps before being bumped and spun out by Will Laseter, who was later disqualified for rough riding, giving Arnold Lily the win. Lakeport’s Stécker main went to Terry Rossiter.

Ukiah track men struggle at NCS finals in Pittsburg

Ukiah sent four navigate the North Coast Section finals as wind and tough field hindered times. Dive Masters of EY Cerrito edged Mel Gray in the 100 yard dash while Masters posted a 21.3 in the 220. Gein and Geoghegan reached finals as Cardinalli clan dominated the late events. Isola of Mt. Diablo won the mile, Johnson of Santa Rosa set an event record in the 180 lows, and Seibert of Willits claimed the 880. Wind reduced several marks and Ukiah’s team saw fatigue affect performances across the meet.
