Local Pony League Schedule Highlights Weekend Action

Eight Pony League teams, including graduates aged 13 and 14, start Saturday with three games at Anton Stadium and the high school arena. Junnieil and Sherrill face George Engebrit Palace Sporting Goods at 1 30 p m, Dusty Rhoades Craw’s team clashes Rotary Club at 1 30, and Anton’s Super Jets led by Bill Broaddus meet Sam Ray’s Chevrons at 3 30. Ford Gravel coached by Ed Walsh vs YEW under Paul Hage. Games run Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays at the stadium with doubleheaders at 6 and 8 p m and singles at 6 p m on other days through July 14. Lower.ee Lakers travel Sunday to Uiktar-a-week roster. Sangin opens Sunday with Pardweel and Williams in reserve.

York: WPI Dick Tiger title rematch looming

Giants Triumph as Mays Murakami Lead Cubs Shutout

San Francisco beat Chicago 2 to 0 behind Willie Mays two homers in three games and Murakami strong relief pitching. Mays connected on his 15th homer to break a scoreless tie, with Lanier and Alou driving in the eighth inning run. Murakami retired the Cubs in order after entering in the eighth, preserving the lead despite two ninth inning hits.

Spahn Stars As Braves Tie Mets In Dramatic Tilt

Spahn, at 23, worked 6 2 3 innings of one hit ball with eight strikeouts and two walks before Ed Matthews delivered a grand slam in the fifth. The Braves rallied into a 7-4 lead but a late push by the opponent tied the game as Spahn impressed veteran observers with his control and poise in a tense crowd. Ed Mathews supplied the key blast while the phillies, reds, and giants posted wins elsewhere.

Fresno deer veto bill rejected by Senate committee

The Senate Fish and Game Committee rejected a bill allowing Fresno and other counties to veto or alter proposed special antlerless or either sex deer hunts. The measure had passed the Assembly unanimously, but the committee said there wasn’t enough support, per Assemblyman Charles B Garrigus of Reedley.
