Ukiah Speedway Opens Summer Stock Car Season

The weekly stock car races begin May 28 at Ukiah with Lak eport and Petaluma entrants joining from the valley. Friday events start at 4 PM and Saturday races at Lakeport, drawing crowds as the 1964 season builds with drivers Don Marshall Bill Despiel and Ray Graziano among entrants and Chevy powered cars expected to compete.

Cardinals Sadecki wins first of season in 8-2 victory

Ray Sadecki finally breaks his winless skid, pitching a complete game as the St. Louis Cardinals beat Philadelphia 8-2. He scattered five hits with five strikeouts and three walks, supported by Julian Javier and Tim McCarver RBIs. Elsewhere in the majors, Cubs edge Giants 7-6, Yankees top Red Sox 4-3 in 12, and rain halts Pirates-Reds.

Local junior basketball league begins in South Ukiah Coast

Adeball underway for Seb youngsters aged 8 to 12 forming teams in the WG divisions of the South Ukiah Coast League. Giants and PIA opened Saturday at Oak ing School. Season games set to run weekly with sponsors backing the effort to give boys a chance to play basketball.
