South Ukiah Little League starts its season a week early with umpires Bill Hook John Harding John Naki Jim Laviletta John Luiz for three opening games tomorrow at Tal mage Diamond and Lions Park Ukiah. Mayor Wagner to throw first ball after dedication ceremonies at 1 p m with Boy Scout color guard Ai O Farrell MSH administrator.

Empire Sail Club Dinner Dance At Nice

Empire Sailing Club plans its annual dinner and dance at Nice's Clear Lake Lodge with a smorgasbord meal and hot roast beef and turkey. The event features dancing from 7 to 8 30 p m and dinner at 8 30 p m with a 2 50 per person price and cocktails. Local sailors also join Sunday races during Rose Festival activities at Lake Ralphine with Kiwi Lido and Flying Dutchman classes and entrants from Ukiah Lakeport and associated crews.

Freddie Glover Named AHL MVP for 1961 62 Season

Freddie Glover of the Cleveland Barons, a former NHL player with Detroit and Chicago, was named the American Hockey League MVP for the 1961 62 season. He previously won the award in 1959 60 and has been a five time All Star, leading the league in points.

Brick Muller Dies of Heart Attack In Berkeley

BERKELEY UP I Dr Harold Brick Muller a West Coast football legend and Olympic high jumper died Thursday from a heart attack. He collapsed while visiting a patient and died at Herrick Hospital. Muller born in San Diego was an all around athlete who became famous as California end in the 1921 Rose Bowl win over Ohio State 28 to 0 when he threw a touchdown pass to Brodie Stephens from his end position reported as 53 to 72 yards.

Trap Shoot Set Here This Sunday

Ukiah Ride and Pistol Club trap shooting division hosts its first money shoot of the season on Sunday with handicap A B C division shooters from Willits Longvale Upper Lake Kelseyville Lakeport Point Arena Novato Petaluma and Santa Rosa. Firing starts at 9 a.m. at the Vichy Springs range and top shooters will compete for prize money.

Jalopy Season Opens At Lakeport With 30 to 40 Cars

Lakeport prepares for the 1962 NASCAR sanctioned jalopy season opening at the Lake County Fair grounds. Some 28 Lake County cars plus entries from Laytonville Ukiah Elk Creek San Rafael Santa Rosa and Sacramento Valley anticipated. Notable drivers include Joe Clem Nea Gmiley John Bradley Leon Ford Jim Everett and others. First heat at 3 30 p m with a 20 lap main event. proceeds fund the Lake County Peace Officers Association youth program.

Wayne Therion of Ukiah leads a small Ukiah entry in the North Coast Divisional trials at Montgomery Santa Rosa. Willits Wilts Anderson Valley and Fort Brage field multiple runners in Varsity and B divisions as they vie for NCS finals and the state meet two weeks away. World Mile Record Looms in Coliseum

New Zealand star Peter Snell and Oregon’s Cyrol Burleson head a field at the 22nd Coliseum Relays with world and American record holders. Snell owns a 3:54.4 mark set in Wanganui last January, while Burleson holds the 3:57.6 American record, billed as a “miracle mile.”
