Famous cutters slated for action at Ukiah Fairgrounds

One of the finest horse shows and cutting events at the Redwood Empire Fairgrounds in Ukiah unfolds Saturday and Sunday in the Little Arena. Sponsored by the Redwood Empire Quarter Horse Association, the two day program features halter classes youth activities and top national contenders in open cutting. Judging by Clyde Kennedy from Sun Valley with top cattle testing the riders. Admission is free with food and drinks available on site.

Mariposa planners reject use permit for school additions

County planning commission denied a use permit for Mariposa school on Low Gap Road to add a greenhouse barn auto shop ceramics and metal work on its 60 acre site three miles west of N State Street. The vote was 4 to 2 with two opposed and one abstention due to noncompliance findings.

Kleindienst admits refusing to testify under White House pressure

Shotgun Kills Covelo Dental Assistant in Mobile Home Park

A 22-year-old Covelo dental assistant John Henry Arbill was killed by a 12 gauge shotgun blast at close range in front of Eric Kent Fulmer’s Covelo Mobile Home Park residence around 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Fulmer, 60, was arrested on suspicion of murder minutes after the shot. Arbill, a dental technician trainee, had been at the park with friends. authorities described witness statements as conflicting and the motive unclear. He was taken to Anker-Lucier Mortuary in Willits. Mendocino County logged its second homicide of the year.

SLA members flee LA house as Hearst kidnapping case widens

Federal agents surrounded a Watts area house seeking three SLA suspects tied to the Patty Hearst case. The trio fled before raids found empty rooms with munitions and wigs. Identifications point to William Harris and wife Emily, with a young woman described as pale and in her early twenties.
