Ukiah Varsity Baseballs Rough Twin Losses in Santa Rosa

Ukiah travelled to Santa Rosa Monday for a regulation game with Santa Rosa and then a makeup with Hogan, losing both in a tough doubleheader. Santa Rosa won 2-0 in the first game as Ukiah stranded runners, while Ukiah JV rallied briefly but fell 2-4. John Peregoy earned the win with relief from Marc Masterson in the second game. Ukiah, now 7-6 on the season, chases a Thursday finale against Napa at Anton Stadium after a costly day marked by errors and missed hits.

Pan Am Test Dates Set for Minnesota Sites

Final Pan American Games trials will run July 1 15 at the University of Minnesota and nearby Minneapolis area venues. U S Olympic Committee officials determine teams across sports including field hockey soccer basketball swimming diving track gymnastics tennis and weightlifting with selections from Minnesota facilities and other host sites such as St Paul Mankato State and Lake Minnetonka venues.

California Partyboats Set Fishing Record in 1968

The Department of Fish and Game reports 857,000 anglers aboard 458 party boats from San Diego to Crescent City logged 5,408,420 fish in 1968, averaging 6.3 per angler. Rockfish led with 1,688,718, sand and surf bass 1,278,939, with gains in barracuda yellowtail and striped bass and decreases in bonito halibut and albacore.

Daniels Wins in First Round Knockout in Las Vegas

Veteran Billy Daniels aged 191 from Brooklyn defeated Floyd Joyner 212 from Phoenix by a quick first round knockout at 3 10 under Nevada rules referee Nate Morgan counted after the bell. Joyner was knocked down twice with a right uppercut and a head collision noted. Hard-hitting Eddie Jones stopped Allen Thomas in 2 20 of the fourth after a late rally. Johnny Brooks, welterweight champion of Nevada, won a unanimous decision over Billy Marsh in a 10 rounder.
