Anderson killed in 101 Crash
Reginald Grant Anderson, 31, of Garberville was instantly killed when his light pickup collided head on with a lumber truck on Highway 101, one mile north of Piercy at 7:12 a.m. Martin C. Conroy, 24, Napa, driver for Antelope Trucking, was injured and taken to Garberville Medical Center after the northbound truck plunged down the embankment. Conroy walked back to the highway for help.

The British government will not suppress the pirate ships Caroline and Atlanta which were operating commercially against the BBC. Postmaster General Reginald Bevis told Conservative MPs he will monitor the ships to avoid interference with international wavelengths and has shelved a bill banning Britons from advertising on pirate stations.

Teamsters Seek Election at Masonite Plant
Masonite general manager R. N. Rasmus told workers by letter that the Teamsters Union has asked the NLRB to hold an election at the plant. The vote would decide whether employees want Teamsters representation or remain with the Pulp Sulphite and Papermill Workers or no union. The last election in 1962 had 219 for the current union, 46 for the Teamsters, and 1 for no union. Company reps will cooperate with the NLRB to set a reasonable time for secret ballots.

Jury verdict Sullivan not guilty in manslaughter case
A jury of eight women and four men found Billy Ray Sullivan not guilty of manslaughter in the Feb 27 death of Vickie Vigil, 6, struck in a Ukiah crosswalk by Sullivan's pickup. The verdict came after a one hour deliberation begun at 10:35 a.m. in Superior Court.

The County Hospital will buy a new intensive care isolette for premature infants after Welcome Wagon representatives won board support. With 825.45 in the group kitty and a 439 shortfall, the County Hospital board unanimously pledged funds to cover the difference, ensuring the isolette is included in the 1964 budget. Redwood Valley Water Study Seeks 10000 Grant
Ernest Butow, chair of the Redwood Valley Water District, asked the county board for $10,000 to fund a continuing water supply study. The board authorized water engineer Ed Carpenter to explain what the grant would cover in an advance reconnaissance report. Four plans are under review: dam the Russian River at Mariposa Ranch, pump from Lake Mendocino, drill deep wells in the valley, and Forsythe Creek. A committee of Williams, Hulse, Lawrence, and Long will plan a fire protection screen for the Leggett dump to cut fire risk. Budget hearings may begin next Monday at 10 a.m.
