Kissinger reports progress in Middle East talks

Secretary of State Kissinger met Israeli leaders for an hour and a quarter and said some progress is being made toward a troop disengagement pact with Syria. An official pegged success odds at 52 to 48, with optimism growing as intensified talks continue through Cairo and on Kissinger’s return deadline. The report notes Netanyahu? and local Ukiah civic items and a late fire call in Ukiah.

Scout-O-Rama Opens With Parade and Derby Event

Scout-O-Rama activities are set for Saturday with a parade from Yokayo school grounds, a Pinewood Derby, log sawing, and a hobo stove contest in Carl Purdy Hall at the Redwood Empire Fairgrounds. Tickets at the door. prizes from merchants and a 20 speed bicycle drawing.

The House Judiciary Committee heard that President Nixon may have known about the Republicans' illegal plan to spy on the Democrats. Growing GOP chorus calls for Nixon resignation

Senator Richard Schweiker of Pennsylvania urged Nixon to resign citing Watergate transcripts as evidence of moral corrosion. The push toward resignation gained support from several Republican senators and echoed by White House officials who defended Nixon’s right to due process.

State hospital sale bids to open today in Talmage

The former Mendocino State Hospital in Talmage will have bids opened after 3 30 p m. The Department of General Services sets the opening, with a price tag around 4 million dollars. About three bidders remain, 25 000 cash per bid required, and 247 acres with 490 acres of river bottom land are for sale.

Demos host luncheon for Bugliosi May 24

The Mendocino County Democratic Central Committee sponsors a noon luncheon for Vincent Bugliosi at the Palace Hotel on May 24. Tickets are $3 and reservations can be made by calling 462-6667 or 462-3841. Bugliosi, 39, former LA County DA staffer and Manson prosecutor, aims to expand the attorney general’s office beyond everyday crime to target narcotics pushers polluters and fraudsters.
