Wildcats Rally To Beat Montgomery 12 2 In Ukiah Victory

Ukiah Varsity baseball ended a slump by crushing Montgomery of Santa Rosa 12 to 2 at Montgomery. Pat Finnegan, Gary Borgna, and Eddie Turner paced three triples while Doug Modrell worked 5 2 3 innings of no hit ball. Turner drove in two, Borgna three, and Finnegan two as Ukiah used eight walks and errors to its advantage.

Wisconsin faculty votes to abolish intercollegiate boxing

The University of Wisconsin faculty voted overwhelmingly to end intercollegiate boxing, ending a 27 year tradition. The motion, by Dr. David Fellman, says boxing is not appropriate for the university. Charles Mohr, a 22 year old Merrick New York senior and former NCAA champion, died after collapsing in the dressing room following his title fight. Bartel beat Mohr earlier in the year in their third meeting. Mohr died eight days after his Easter Sunday collapse from a brain hemorrhage.

Ukiah Valley Softball League calls all men players

Weather permitting the 1960 Ukiah Valley Softball League plans an organizational meeting soon to form teams. Expected early entrants include Hollow Tree Lumber Masonite Corp and Mendocino State Hospital. Prospective sponsors or players should contact Stafford at HD 2 6152. Hillman Wins Eddie Shore Award for 1959 60

Larry Hillman of the Providence Reds is named the NHL defenseman of the year for 1959 60. The 23 year old, part of a trio of AHL brothers, tallied 26 points on a 35 point ballot. Hillman, under Boston Bruins contract, receives the Eddie Shore plaque and 300 bonus, plus another 300 bonus for first all star team selection. Also notes his prior all star honor. In Minneapolis Guy Lombardo aims to set a speedboat record at Pyramid Lake June 1 15 piloting The Tempalcon to surpass Donald Campbell’s 260 mph mark.
