The Senate approved a bill to criminalize an unemployed father on aid who refuses to participate in a public work training incentive program. Sponsored by Sen. Clark L. Bradley the measure passed 22 to 13 and goes to the Assembly. Conviction carries up to a $500 fine and six months in jail.
The Assembly Criminal Procedure Committee approved on a split vote a bill requiring police to take persons arrested for dangerous drugs or narcotics to treatment centers. Authored by Assemblyman Pete Wilson the bill moves to the floor and applies to first offenders who claim they were en route to treatment at arrest.
Richard Carlson testified in San Francisco as a co author of the Look Magazine article alleging Mayor Joseph Alioto had ties to Mafia figures. He stated he believed the Nut Tree meeting details occurred. sources included Tommy Lee Thomas and Jimmy Fratianno. Carlson faced a related invasion suit by Thomas.
New York UPI reports a higher market with the Dow up 6.53 at 724.92 and the UPI indicator up 0.87 percent as analysts cite seasonal boosts and ongoing concerns from inflation, money tightness, and geopolitical tensions. Trading highlighted Milgo Electronic, Saxon Industries, AMK Corp warrants, Telex Corp, Fairchild Camera, and American Telephone among active issues.

Tatum opposes unified districts, citing loss of local control and identity in small communities. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Zimm erman Mortuary for Chelsie L. Dal Pozzo 60 of Ukiah who died in a local hospital Tuesday. A rancher, he was born in Anderson Valley and lived his life here. Survivors include widow Angeline Dal Pozzo two sons Richard and James a daughter Lucille Burns four sisters Mary Dal Pozzo Katheryn Bartolomei Virginia Giovannetti and Annie Donati all of Ukiah five grandchildren Fr Roger Lamoureaux of St Marys Church will officiate burial follows in Ukiah Catholic Cemetery pallbearers include Martin John Ernest Sozzoni Charles Bob Garzini and John Guntley.
