Ukiah Hosts Men's Golf Club Invitational

Ukiah hosted the Ukiah Men's Golf Club Invitational on a warm Sunday.108 golfers participated, many from town, as ALT fans watched the action and awards were presented to top players.

Ukiah Invitational yields mixed prizes and tight scores

The Ukiah Rotary Golf Invitational directed by Captain Don Howard concluded after two days of par busting best ball play. Ken Battker, Don Nolan, Max Babcock, and Brad Shear led the top five foursomes with Nolan taking first net and $30 added merchandise. Chuck Finch led with low gross 144 and low net 126, earning part of a $300 second-place foursome prize. seven others tied for second with 151 gross totals and 7.5 each.

Local golf highlight leads to Utah club champs start

Schefick Buckingham and Duane Humphrey finished two strokes behind tournament winner Don Nolan of Fortuna. Wegesser Eversole and Stickney each shot 134 nets to Nolan's 132 as three tied for near top. Qualifying for the 1969 Utah Men's Golf Club Championships runs May 10 to May 23 with the big club dinner on May 24 preceding the championship rounds.

Golf match play eliminations set for late May

Match play eliminations start May 25 and run about five weeks to July 4. Entrants for the 1969 Men's Club Championships must sign up at the Pro Shop and complete qualifying rounds May 10 through May 23. Pro Paul Underwood and Don Howard receive praise for handling this year’s Invitational.

Ukiah Invitational Sees Golfers Adapt Course Layouts

A busy two week period left players and organizers juggling greens layout for the sec end-nine and adjustments to challenge entrants in the 27 team Ukiah Invitational. The Eureka Pro-Am was set to be played today if players could stand, while the Women's Golf Club aided with a luncheon and coffee and served as scorekeepers for the 27 teams.

Montg omery defeats Ukiah amid flooded outfield conditions

Ukiah hosts Vallejo as Montgomery Pirates win 13-4 in a mud battered game at Anton Stadium. Ukiah bashed six hits while fielding and running suffered in waterlogged outfield. Mike Tate and Randy Hunt each had two hits for Ukiah. Roger Kemmerle relieved Dan Morse, allowing multiple runs as Montgomery built its lead. Santa Rosa’s Beseda toppled Napa 2-1 and Vallejo beat Petaluma 2-1 in other local games.

Ukiah NCRA season opener draws 1600 at fairgrounds

A crowd of over 1600 attended the Northern California Racing Association season opener at the 12th District Fairgrounds. Cliff Yiskis and Steve Castelli won Open main and Stocker trophy dashes respectively, with David Hathaway taking the 10-lap Claimer. other winners and fast times highlighted a busy day of trials heats and finals as preparations build for upcoming Ukiah and Lakeport NASCAR-style races.

Celtics Lakers Meet In seventh game for NBA title

In Inglewood California the Celtics and Lakers clash in game seven to decide the NBA championship. ABC TV will carry the game at 7 p.m. PDT. Boston forced the decider with a comeback win after losing the first two games. Russell, 35, coaches and stars for the Celtics as West hampered by a hamstring faces a pivotal game against Chamberlain, with Wilt and Bill pitted against each other in a finals that has seen West struggle and Russell and Chamberlain trade dominance.

Ukiah Netters Fall To Montgomery In NBL Clash

Ukiah lost to Montgomery 7-0 as five singles and two doubles wins propelled the visitors. Ukiah's Alan Brothers dropped a three set decision to Bill Shambert, while Dan Nicholson won the first set before fading. Ukiah hosts Vallejo next Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

Palace wins opening South Ukiah Little League game 13 5

Palace Sport and Hobby Shop, coached by Henry Brooks and Dr. Joe Gulyash, opened the 1969 South Ukiah Little League season with a 13 to 5 victory over Prescription Center. Mike Blank made a highlight diving catch, while Palace hitters totaled 14 hits with key marks from Jay Bell Greg Sanchez and Ron Pearson.

Canadiens win Stanley Cup in second straight sweep

The Montreal Canadiens defeated the St. Louis Blues 2 1 to complete their second consecutive four game sweep in the Cup finals at the St Louis Arena. Ted Harris and John Ferguson scored as captain Jean Beliveau accepted the Cup from NHL president Clarence Campbell. Beliveau praised the team’s pride and family spirit while Ferguson praised their bruising style that drew 38 minutes of penalties.
