Cepeda Homers As Giants Beat Pirates 4-2

San Francisco downed Pittsburgh 4-2 at Candlestick Park as Orlando Cepeda hit his seventh homer. The win, boosting the Giants to 16 5 on the season, matched a seventh straight victory. Alou Pagan Davenport and Cepeda contributed key hits and runs.

Ukiah High Relays Sweep North Bay League C Meet

Ukiah High School swept the C division at the NBL relays winning six events and placing second once to lead with 33 points. Teddy Babcock tied the Class C pole vault record at 10 feet 4 inches as Ukiah set two NBL marks including a 116 foot 4 inch shot put by Montgomery. Next stop is the North Bay League trials at Analy in Sebastopol Saturday starting 12:30 with field events.

In Tanforan's Lake Merced Purse Wait, the heavy favorite, Wait, was edged by Blue Justice with Magic Beau third among eight 3 year olds. Blue Justice paid 8.80 to win while the daily double paid large sums to investors, with a record double payoff previously set.

Lost Pelican Found Safe Along California Coast

The converted submarine chaser Pelican, missing on a voyage from Washington to Monterey California, was towed to safety by coast guard cutters about 98 miles west of Point Sur. Crew Jeff Hodges 36 and daughter Sendra 18 were located in good condition. Hodges had bought the vessel in Garys Harbor Washington and planned coastal cargo work to San Francisco.

Folsom Trails in Alabama Governor Race to Runoff

With 2,809 of 3,688 boxes reporting in Alabama, George Wallace leads with 151,507 votes, Ryan de Graffenried follows at 127,701, and James Folsom trails at 115,503. Analysts say a late rural surge for Folsom could not guarantee a top two finish.

Titov Eyes Seattle and San Francisco After Visit

Soviet cosmonaut Gherman Titov hopes to add a West Coast swing to his U S trip this week with visits to Seattle and San Francisco. Sources said no formal decision had been made yet but the State Department reportedly raised no objections. Titov was expected to attend the Seattle World's Fair if the plan materializes.

Burglary Suspects Bonded In Kingsbury Case

Two sons of Dr Samuel Hurwitz were released on bail after being booked for burglary at the home of Dr Bernard Kingsbury in Russian Hill San Francisco The men James Hurwitz 23 and Thomas Hurwitz 19 were arrested Tuesday Police found whisky and two revolvers in James car and learned he planned to sell the loot to help pay $165 rent for his Hastings Law College lodging.
